The artist has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

He was given the award on mid-October as his new release his work was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function local spots had in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his recent tour to support numerous small stages across the UK.

The money supported locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in large arenas backs the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to worthy causes.

Back when they received the trophy in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman the singer announced that the band would donate their cash to the charity War Child.

In 2002, artist she shared her award among a few good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," the artist explained to the media.

Previously, the band donated their winnings to the youth organization that developed their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners they gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," said singer the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected two grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and The Croft in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
